Water Distribution Supervisor

This position is responsible for supervising the maintenance, repair and replacement of the water distribution system.  Duties include:

• Supervises and prioritizes the repair of water main breaks/leaks and associated excavations. Determines source and location of leak origin prior to excavation.

• Establishes and enforces appropriate safety procedures and policies regarding distribution system repair, excavations and shoring, traffic control, and utilization of safety equipment.  Supervises employees in the proper and safe operation of heavy equipment and tools related to the repair and installation of water main, valves and fire hydrants. 

• Utilizes GIS maps of water distribution system. Ensures valve maintenance by scheduling and prioritizing valve box locating and adjusting to grade, and adding, replacing and repairing valves.
• Supervises employees in the proper procedure of repairing, replacing and adjusting several different brands and sizes of fire hydrants. Schedules and prioritizes the repair, replacement and adjustment of hydrants. Orders and stocks repair supplies for several brands and sizes of hydrants. Schedules and supervises the routine flushing of hydrants and the painting of hydrants.
• Supervises the routing and installation of new water main, valves, fire hydrants and taps to minimize conflicts with other utilities and impact on landscaping, and to maximize flow capacities.
