Job Title: Skate Lesson Coordinator Job Level: Part-time

Department: Parks and Recreation Pay Range: $18.00/hour

Reports To: Ice Arena Manager Description: October 2024

Position Summary

The primary function of this position is Implementation and supervision of the Skating Lesson Program. The position will oversee at least eight (8) part time and seasonal employees. The position will have responsibility for arranging group lesson schedules and classes.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

• Schedule group lessons and assign instructors.
• Recruit and select instructors for group classes and private instruction.
• Coordinate and train instructional staff.
• Recommend pay scales for instructors.
• Assist in rink policy decisions concerning private instructors and rink use by such instructors.
• Assist with development and dissemination of program information and registration.
• Arrange group instruction for outside organizations such as Scout troops, Church groups, etc. as requested.
• Arrange private instruction to individuals as requested.

• Assist in maintaining regular records, participation levels, and compiling information on program usage and conditions, etc.
• Address participant concerns and feedback to improve program quality.
• Organize and execute special events, such as skate competitions, demonstrations, or workshops.
• Prepare and submit payroll for skate lesson instructors.
• Responds to public inquiries regarding skating lesson program.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

• Knowledge of activities and procedures involved in operating Skating Lesson Program.
• Knowledge of organizations and resources within the skating community.
• Knowledge of supervisory methods and techniques.
• Ability to plan, organize, coordinate, and direct staff.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with city staff, city officials, community groups, and the general public.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

At least three years experience in skating lesson program administration, and at least two years of related supervisory experience along with USFSA or ISI accreditation.

Physical Requirements:

1. Ability to skate proficiently.
2. Able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds for short distances.
3. Ability to stoop, bend, climb, and crawl as needed to adequately perform cleaning and maintenance of facility.

Working Conditions:

Work is primarily done in an indoor ice rink facility setting resulting in considerable exposure to cold temperatures (35-50 degrees). Weekend and evening hours will be required.
