Recycling Center Worker

Responsibilities: 

Responsible for loading deposited cardboard, plastic, aluminum, and paper into stationary compactors and bins.  Loads cardboard into baler, inspects deposited material and removes all contaminants from recyclable materials.  Uses a skid steer to move bales to storage area.  Sweeps walkways inside and outside of facility of debris, cleans area around receiving containers, cleans equipment, and shovels snow from public unloading areas.  Communicates with Sanitation Superintendent when containers are near maximum volume.  Reports equipment malfunctions and when recycling equipment needs to be ordered.

 

Requirements: 

Must be able to communicate effectively and tactfully when dealing with the public.  Knowledge of recyclable materials and experience with solid waste.  Able to operate a skid steer and a pressure washer.  Performs bending, squatting, climbing, and lifting.  Able to stand for long periods of time, carry up to 65 pounds of material and push material from one area to another.  Ability to follow written and oral instructions.  Valid driver's license required; Class B Commercial Driver's License preferred.

 

Working Environment: 

Outdoor working environment with exposure to a variety of extreme weather conditions.  Subject to a variety of mechanical hazards, chemical, toxic, and other hazards associated with waste collection.

 

Work Schedule:

Must be available to work evenings, nights, holidays, and weekends.  Full-time employees are required to work an average of 40 hours per week in their four or five-day work week.

 

Starting Salary:  $31,323 per year plus excellent benefits.
