Recreation Specialist

Responsibilities:

• Coordinates various classes, special events, and programs offered by the Recreation Department with a general emphasis on aquatics and special events.
• Develops new programs and special events.
• Oversees and grows the swim lesson program and water fitness programs.
• Assists in hiring, training, supervising and evaluating part-time and seasonal employees and program volunteers, in order to conduct outdoor pool operations, aquatics programs, and special events.
• Assists regularly with facility supervision on nights and weekends. Monitors facilities and staff and serves as Manager on Duty (MOD) when needed.
• Creates flyers, posters, PR opportunities and social media posts to promote the Department.
• Demonstrates proper equipment operation for part-time and seasonal employees.
• Assists with planning activities, assigns tasks and provides direction to part-time staff.

Requirements:

• Have comprehensive knowledge of recreation programming philosophy, trends and operations, and facility management.
• Ability to communicate effectively both written and orally.
• Ability to supervise and evaluate the work of part-time/seasonal subordinates.
• Computer proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets and other recreation related software applications.
• Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Recreation or equivalent field of study.
• One year full time experience in recreation programming and/or facility management.

Work Environment:

Ability to work outside for extended periods of time. Able to long periods of time standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, and occasionally lifting up to 50 pounds. Some exposure to inclement weather and noise.

Salary: $42,930 - $47,225 per year with great benefits package
