Public Information Officer

Responsibilities:

• Responsible for developing and disseminating information, in a variety of media to all stakeholders, including residents, businesses, staff, elected officials, and visitors.

• Develops messaging that reinforces the image of the City of Kirkwood as accessible, forward-looking, and full-service.

• Serves as a resource to staff and Council members on issues related to strategically communicating messaging regarding City programs, events, vision, and issues of interest.

• Drafts, reviews, and/or approves public communications regarding City events, programs, and issues of interest to the residents and public. Oversees external, public-facing communication and branding in various online and print platforms such as LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, and other print and social media.

• Maintains and updates the City's Website, including writing copy, developing content, selecting photography, and ensuring meeting agendas, minutes, and calendar entries are posted in a timely fashion.

• Plans and implements communication and publicity strategy and tactics that will effectively and accurately communicate the City's mission and vision.

• Responds to requests for information from local and national media. Arranges media interviews with staff, administration, and elected officials when needed.

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or closely related field, and five years of related experience.

• Ability to develop innovative and creative approaches to municipal communication efforts.

• Ability to prepare news articles and press releases, to edit material submitted by other City staff, and to take photographs of people, places, and events.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with public officials, the public, media representatives, and other City employees.
