Procurement Buyer

Responsibilities:

Performs professional and responsible work in the procurement of commodities, supplies, services and equipment in the centralized purchasing operations of the City. Work often requires development of recommendations and independent actions consistent with policies, general directives, and broad regulations. Following standardized procedures, receives and reviews purchase requisitions, obtains information from vendors relative to products, prices and delivery dates, and solicits bids from vendors and suppliers. Assists department heads in determining material requirements, specifications and acceptable prices, and prepares purchase orders to ensure compliance with specifications and timely delivery.

Essential work functions include the management of associated contracts, requiring continuous communication with vendors and department staff on purchasing, shipping, receiving, and invoicing activities.

Requirements:

Knowledge of purchasing principles, methods, and procedures, and of contract administration. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Ability to multitask and prioritize in a work environment subject to frequent interruptions. Excellent administrative and interpersonal skills. Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and e-procurement systems. Ability to perform mathematical computations accurately and quickly. Certification as a Professional Public Buyer (CPPB) is preferred, but can be obtained after hiring. Hiring contingent upon passing drug screen.

Meets or exceeds one of the following:

  • An Associate's degree from an accredited college or university with significant course work in business administration, public administration, or a related field AND two years of progressively responsible experience in procurement
  • A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in business administration, public administration or a related field.
  • Or Equivalent job experience.

Salary Range: $46,179 - $55,873 per year, DOQ, plus excellent benefits.
