Police Sergeant

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and/or assigned.

• Assists the platoon Lieutenant, or in his/her absence is responsible for duties at shift changes, which include, taking attendance, inspecting the appearance of Police Officers, ensuring that the equipment issued to them is serviceable, providing them with needed equipment and giving them information, assignments and special instructions.
• Patrols the City in a marked car and assists Police Officers, as necessary, on radio calls and car stops.
• Ensures that Police Officers are carrying out their assignments and are following departmental rules, regulations, policies and procedures through spot checks.
• Assumes responsibility at major crime scenes, serious accidents and special events until relieved by a higher-ranking departmental representative.
• Inform appropriate personnel of all incidents and situations that affect public safety.
• Submits reports on calls handled and arrests made, reviews and approves written reports submitted by platoon members.
• Answers phone and walk-in inquiries and responds to complaints.
• Provides advice to Police Officers in preparing reports.
• Coordinates units going out-of-service so as to ensure proper police coverage.

Minimum Training and Experience Requited to Perform Essential Job Functions:

• High school Diploma or GED required.
• Strong communication skills
• Must be a U.S. citizen
• Possess a valid driver's license
• Certification as a Police or Peace Officer of a Missouri first class county.

Inclement weather. Potential contact with persons and /or articles with contagious/communicable diseases. Personal danger relater to armed and or dangerous persons/animals. Shift work. Shift work.

STARTING SALARY: $77,537.44 per year DOQ with great benefits package. Open till filled.
