Performing Arts Center Technical and Facilities Coordinator

PRIMARY PURPOSE:


Responsible for leading the technical operations and facilities management of the City of Kirkwood's state-of-the-art performing arts venue. Oversees all technical aspects of events, ensuring the proper functioning of equipment, coordinating technical crews, and maintaining the facility in top-notch condition.


SUPERVISION:


Position functions under direct supervision of the KPAC Operations Manager.


DESCRIPTION OF WORK:


  1. Manages all technical aspects of events, including lighting, sound, rigging, and stage setups, to ensure seamless and high-quality performances. Collaborates with event organizers, artists, and production teams to understand technical requirements and provide effective solutions.

  1. Directly responsible for managing, coordinating and often physically placing all aspects of events including but not limited to stage setup, riser platform setup, tables/chairs setup, furniture setup, orchestra pit covers, lighting, sound boards, etc.

  1. Communicates technical information and requirements to event organizers, artists, and staff in a clear and concise manner.Oversees and participates in the setup, operation, and breakdown of events and technical equipment for and during rehearsals, performances, and events.

  1. Schedules and assigns tasks to the technical team, coordinating their efforts to ensure successful event execution. Leads, mentors, and manages a team of part-time tech and facilities staff.

  1. Coordinates equipment rentals and purchases with general and operations managers, adhering to the venue's technical requirements. Coordinates technical design, layout, and logistics of events.

  1. Supervises the maintenance and cleanliness of the performing arts center, including the stage, backstage areas, dressing rooms, and public spaces. Conducts regular inspections to identify maintenance needs and coordinates repairs, renovations, and improvements with the City's facilities manager as necessary.

  1. Works with City's Facilities Manager to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, implementing appropriate measures to guarantee a safe working environment for staff and artists.

  1. Maintains an inventory of technical equipment, ensuring all assets are in good working condition and regularly serviced.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES:


  1. Knowledge of technical equipment, stagecraft, and theater production processes.

  1. Familiarity with modern theatrical lighting and sound systems, including digital consoles and equipment.

  1. Proficiency in relevant software and tools used in technical theater and event management.

  1. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work efficiently under pressure.

  1. Ability to plan, organize, coordinate, and direct staff. Embrace and adapt to change.

  1. Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays, depending on event schedules.

  1. Knowledge of customer service techniques and theories.

  1. Ability to develop processes, performance standards and monitoring activities.

  1. Ability to often lift and/or carry objects weighing up to 75 pounds.

  1. Ability to occasionally use a variety of material handling equipment.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:


  1. Two or more years of experience in technical theater or performing arts technical operations, with a strong focus on lighting, sound, and stage operations.

  1. Two or Four-year college degree in Technical Theatre, Performing Arts Production, or related field (or equivalent experience).

JOB CONDITIONS:


The position is salaried and exempt from overtime. Weekend and evening hours and a varied schedule will be required. Most work takes place in an indoor office environment. This full-time position requires flexibility in work schedule since evening and weekend hours are expected. Scheduled work hours will vary according to KPAC calendar of events.
