Line System Investigator
PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Responsible for investigating, inspecting and documenting field distribution system conditions associated with planned and performed capital and maintenance activities.
SUPERVISION:
Under direct supervision of the Distribution Engineer.
DESCRIPTION OF WORK: ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Conducts field surveys of distribution system assets to gather information required by the distribution engineer for capital, maintenance, and service extension design activities.
- Investigates field conditions associated with maintenance and tree trimming work order requests to determine work order activities.
- Inspects work performed by construction and maintenance crews to determine adherence to work order and design requirements.
- Investigates field conditions associated with traffic signal maintenance work order requests and work orders.
- Utilizes Automated Metering Information System to generate and distribute outage maps during power outage events.
- Utilizes Automated Metering Information System to generate circuit models for distribution system analysis.
- Inspects tree trimming performed by contractual crews to determine adherence to specifications, work order requirements, and the department's vegetation plan.
- Performs Missouri One Call locates identifying the placement of overhead and underground facilities.
- Reconciles field conditions with assets and data associated with the department's Geographic Information System.
- Monitors material processing associated with capital and maintenance activities.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES:
- Familiarity with the basic use of personal computer email, word processing, spreadsheets, and internet access systems.
- Familiarity with the use of Geographic Information Systems, Automated Meter Reading Information Systems, Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition Systems, and Circuit Modeling systems.
- Familiarity with basic communication systems platforms associated with voice and data.
- Working knowledge of electric utility safety standards and the National Electric Safety Code.
- Basic mathematical and analytical skills.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be a high school graduate or equivalent and have post-secondary specialized training of not less than two (2) years; Specialized courses to meet this requirement include: electricity or electronics, and lineman's training courses.
- Valid Driver's License.
- Equivalent experience in the field of utility distribution and transmission may be substituted for the specialized training.
MENTAL EFFORT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be capable of performing field inspections in all types of weather conditions.
- Worker may occasionally perform in awkward or uncomfortable position involving stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling.
WORKING CONDITIONS, ENVIRONMENT, AND POSITION RELATED HAZARDS:
Indoor and outdoor working environment. Outdoor environment included being subjected to hazards from working in an environment of extreme weather conditions. Individual to work forty (40) hours a week, Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Perform maintenance scheduled and unscheduled overtime (must be available).
