Fire hydrant Painter

PRIMARY PURPOSE:


Responsible for the cleaning, painting, maintenance, and testing of Kirkwood's distribution system fire hydrants.


SUPERVISION:


Under direct supervision of Water Department Distribution System Supervisor. Takes direction

from Lead Distribution Worker.


DESCRIPTION OF WORK: ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS


  1. Cleans, paints, tests, and flushes fire hydrants.

  1. Locates, excavates and adjusts fire hydrant valve boxes to grade.

  1. Locates fire hydrant valves using metal detectors.

  1. Records and maintains records of daily work progress and corresponding data.

  1. Completes fire hydrant inventory.

  1. Controls and directs traffic around work sites as necessary.

  1. Performs duties with a high degree of safety in the work place, and complies with all city and department safety policies and requirements.

  1. Perform other duties as required.


MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:


1. High school diploma or GED required.


2. Basic knowledge of the materials, methods and equipment used in the repair and replacement of fire hydrants is preferred.


3. Familiarity with current safety practices as they relate to excavations and traffic control.


4. Ability to use GIS mapping tools.


5. Ability to carry out oral and written instructions.


6. Requires a valid driver's license with acceptable driving history. Valid class "B" Missouri Commercial Driver's License preferred.


MENTAL EFFORT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:


  1. Climb ladders, lift, bend, reach to ground and overhead, walk, kneel and squat.

  1. Enter, exit, climb onto vehicles, trucks and equipment.

  1. Push and pull 30 pounds repetitively.

  1. Grip, hold, carry, and lift 33 pounds from floor to 65 inches above floor constantly.

  1. Work in extreme hot and cold weather including during hours of darkness.

  1. Drive and operate a passenger vehicle or truck.

  1. Sitting and standing for a period of up to 4 hours.

WORKING CONDITIONS, ENVIRONMENT, AND POSITION RELATED HAZARDS:


Outdoor working environment under all weather conditions.
