Director of Planning and Development

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Oversees the implementation of the City's Comprehensive Plan and other long-range development related plans.
• Initiates various economic development initiatives in an effort to further the City's related goals and acts as the liaison to developers to this effect.
• Supervises the Building Commissioner, Planner II, and Planner I positions and is responsible for providing guidance to said positions to accommodate all tasks.
• Provides professional and technical expertise in an effort to keep the City's development-related practices current and continually advancing.
• Acts as the Staff liaison to the Planning & Zoning Commission and to the City Council for development-related matters.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree or major course works in land-use planning, urban planning, or a closely related field.
• Minimum six (6) years of experience in municipal planning with increasing responsibility.
• Master's degree and AICP designation preferred.
• A valid Missouri Driver's License.
• Must be available to work flexible hours including some evenings and weekends and be available on call for emergencies.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

Work is performed mostly in an office setting. Some outdoor work is required in the inspection of various land use developments and construction sites. Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Vision abilities required to use close and distance vision, color vision, depth perception, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus.
