Administrative and Operations Associate

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for scheduling and entering sanitation changes and special charges to customers' accounts.
  • Responsible for reviewing, rectifying, and approving landfill, recycling, and compost billing.
  • Maintains inventory for delivery and sale of plastic refuse bags and paper yard waste bags.
  • Responsible for making independent judgments in compliance with departmental policies in the absence of Sanitation Superintendent.
  • Compiles monthly reports for landfill, recycling, and composting activities.
  • Coordinates purchasing activities for the Sanitation Department to include City pro-cards, entering requisitions, and reviewing and approving sanitation truck tickets, and vendor invoices for Sanitation Department charges.
  • Maintains time and department personnel records, i.e. vacation, sick leave, etc., for sanitation and recycling center employees.
  • Responsible for explaining City, sanitation, and environmental policies to residents regarding solid waste collections, recycling, and yard waste activities.
  • Coordinates, assists, prepares, and maintains public outreach education on the Sanitation department webpage.
  • Answers citizens' inquiries concerning street cleaning, street repair, forestry, public grounds maintenance, snow removal, and other Street Department services.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School graduate or equivalent plus at least three years related experience in a busy, customer-focused office environment.
  • Experience in the field of environmental issues, health concerns, management, and governmental experience, preferred.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Proven exceptional customer service skills, including ability to communicate effectively, courteously, and tactfully, both orally and in writing, with the general public and City staff.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office programs.
  • Knowledge of environmental and health regulations and policies of the City of Kirkwood and St. Louis County.
  • Knowledge of solid waste procedures in the City of Kirkwood, St. Louis County, and the State of Missouri.
  • Experience with grant writing and understanding of meeting grant deadlines, preferred.
